For a German life sciences company, we are looking for an experienced person for the position of Staff Data Steward.

Deliver high quality data required for successful implementation of program objectives and organizational strategies. Identify data quality needs and implement solutions, through data analysis focusing on preventing quality issues, minimizing manual intervention and aiding automation efforts. Data analysis will ensure data is structured properly, follows governance guidelines and enforces security policies. Ensure availability, accuracy, reliability and quality of data through applied domain knowledge of workflows, data platforms, and stakeholder engagement.

Your new role:

  • Provide leadership to design sessions with Stewards, Data Engineers, Engineering teams, Data Scientists, Product Managers, business and/or IT stakeholders, that result in design documentation and business metadata capture in Collibra and other systems as needed.
  • Partnering with Capability owners, GPOs, Regional Leads, Product Managers, Product Owners, and other Business & IT stakeholders to gain and document comprehensive insights into business capability needs and processes. Expertise in EME o2c/plan/manufacturing domains.
  • Implement and utilize data solutions for profiling, data analysis, modeling, validation, cataloguing, quality assurance using a variety of tools such as Postman, R, Collibra, Python, etc., and follow industry best practice.
  • Design and evangelize frameworks and objectives for: Governance, Adhering to External and Internal Compliance Needs, Metadata Management, Data Quality, and Data Management Best Practices.
  • Lead in targeted Data efforts, to make data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) to strengthen Bayer Crop Science's effectiveness in carrying out its mission.
  • Lead multi-functional and multi-business stewardship network in which to evangelize these frameworks and objectives - Governance, Data Quality, Data Wrangling, and Best Practices.
  • Collaborate with other data stewards and engineers within the team and across teams on aligning delivery dates and integration efforts.
  • Develop a roadmap over respective efforts in the domain and account for dependencies across other domains.
  • Lead various cross team meetings and events focused on design and planning, sharing the results of team efforts, or brainstorming on process improvements.
  • Understanding, assisting and troubleshooting access management, ensuring retention, auditing standards, best practices and data governance policies and procedures are applied consistently and accurately.
  • Providing support for business, platform and other asset teams pertaining to domain knowledge, asset data, governance, and end-to-end solutioning.
  • Define data quality rules and implement automated monitoring, reporting, and remediation solutions.
  • Set strategy for implementation of automated data quality monitoring based on engagement with stakeholders and technical partners.
  • Lead root cause analysis to identify trends and assess impact of data quality issues.
  • Define strategy and identify dependencies to support data migration from legacy systems, data inserts and updates not supported by applications.


What you'll need to succeed:

  • 9 years relevant experience/7yrs Master/3yrs PHD,
  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Biological Science, Business Administration, Finance, Data Science, Database Administration or equivalent,
  • Manipulating data using scripting languages and/or data processing software (e.g., Python, R, ETL applications),
  • Expert level - business domain (order to cash, plan, manufacturing),
  • Querying SQL and/or NoSQL databases,
  • Exposure and knowledge in related source systems architecture and design,
  • Experience Building & supporting APIs, Warehousing, KAFKA, and other ETL tools,
  • Experience with data process, internal applications, & scripting tools. AWS, REST, GraphQL, gRPC, KAFKA, Python,
  • Profiling, summarizing & reporting data quality metrics,
  • Deliver detailed technical documentation,
  • Align programs/deliverables across organizations,
  • Applied experience with agile development continuous deployment, DevOps, & decision science (e.g., AI, ML, etc.),
  • Knowledge of modern data principles,
  • Creation of strategic technical solutions and documentation to challenging business problems,
  • Mentoring and guiding activities of junior team members and influencing across teams.
